Name: Shane Huffman
Position: Crew Chief
Hometown: Hickory, NC
Q: How many years have you been in racing? A: My whole life. I actually told my mom when I was three years old that I was going to race when I grew up.
Q: What is your favorite racing moment? A: As a driver, I have a few favorite racing moments. I won the 2003 Hooters Pro Cup championship. I won two of the three championship races that year, that was fun. I can’t forget about my win at Bristol Motor Speedway. There’s just something about that place that makes any win special. As far as favorite racing moments working in racing; definitely winning the 2012 NASCAR Camping World Truck championship and the 2020 ARCA Menards Series championship. I’d have to say another favorite moment was my first win as a crew chief. Austin Dillon was driving for us, and we won at New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Q: What got you interested in working in racing? A: My uncle for sure. He raced in what used to be the Goody’s Dash Series. That started my passion for this sport.
Q: Who has had the greatest influence on you and your career? A: Definitely my uncle.
Q: Where did you work before coming to BHR? A: MGM
Q: What’s your favorite part about your job? A: Honestly, calling races. I like the strategy, and the on-the-spot problem-solving that’s involved with being up on the pit box during the race.
Q: What is your favorite city to visit? A: I’d have to say Vegas or Nashville, they’re both pretty close in comparison.
Q: What are your hobbies away from the shop? A: Spending time with my family at the race track.
Q: What is your favorite restaurant to eat at on the road? A: That’s tough. It depends where we’re racing, but I really like BD’s Mongolian Grill or Dan’l Boone Inn.
Q: Would you rather be a tiny elephant or a giant hamster? A: Tiny elephant
Q: If you could have any superpower, what would it be? A: To see the future.
Q: If your life was a TV show, what would be the theme song? A: That’s easy, Good ‘Ol Boys from Dukes of Hazzard.
Q: Do you have any superstitions? A: I used to have a lot of them, actually. When I raced, I would wear the same shirt under my race suit. I would literally wear it until the whole back was missing. I didn’t then and I still don’t take coin change on race day. I won’t eat at McDonald’s on race day or race weekend, either.
